Radio frequency signals used in this complex are obtained from other signal generated by some patterns of very high stability, atomic type. Hydrogen masers and generators based on cesium-133, stand out among other. This last one has a new pattern incorporated, composed by a linear ion trap of mercury (LITS, or "Linear ion trap Standard").
In the case of the hydrogen maser, stability is of the order of 10 to the power minus 14; for the cesium pattern the stability is lower, and the LITS is hoped to overcome a hydrogen maser in one or two orders of magnitude. The atomic clocks of the complex, driven by the hydrogen maser, guarantee stability better than one second in a million years.
