Con ese esp\u00edritu, la NASA explorar\u00e1 Tit\u00e1n, la luna m\u00e1s grande de Saturno, para ayudar a la humanidad a avanzar en la b\u00fasqueda de los componentes b\u00e1sicos de la vida en el universo.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Un componente clave del veh\u00edculo Dragonfly de 8 rotores que har\u00e1 ese viaje a Tit\u00e1n se ha sometido recientemente a un conjunto de pruebas en el Transonic Dynamics Tunnel (TDT) en el Langley Research Center de la NASA en Hampton, Virginia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Similar a un dron, Dragonfly atravesar\u00e1 la atm\u00f3sfera densa y rica en nitr\u00f3geno de Tit\u00e1n, luego aterrizar\u00e1, tomar\u00e1 muestras y examinar\u00e1 varios sitios. Dragonfly tendr\u00e1 cuatro pares de rotores, cada uno con dos rotores en configuraci\u00f3n coaxial, es decir, un rotor encima del otro. Es similar a un dron terrestre t\u00edpico, pero significativamente m\u00e1s grande, ya que el veh\u00edculo mide m\u00e1s de 3,5 metros tanto de punta a punta como en los puntos m\u00e1s anchos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Investigadores de Langley y del Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) de Johns Hopkins realizaron una serie de pruebas en un par de rotores coaxiales en el TDT destinados a validar modelos inform\u00e1ticos. La gran secci\u00f3n de prueba permiti\u00f3 el uso de hardware representativo de vuelo a gran escala, y la capacidad de llenar el t\u00fanel con gas pesado permiti\u00f3 probar el hardware con cargas aerodin\u00e1micas representativas de Tit\u00e1n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Los investigadores simularon las condiciones previstas para el vuelo estacionario, el descenso y el ascenso, y evaluaron las cargas aerodin\u00e1micas de cada rotor con una variedad de velocidades del viento, \u00e1ngulos del eje del rotor y ajustes del acelerador del rotor. Los investigadores tambi\u00e9n realizaron pruebas con un rotor en funcionamiento y el otro inm\u00f3vil para evaluar los modos de falla. Los sensores y aceler\u00f3metros en el dron de prueba midieron las cargas y aceleraciones creadas por cada rotor bajo varias velocidades del viento, orientaciones y velocidades del rotor. El an\u00e1lisis preliminar de los datos indica que las predicciones del CFD sobre el rendimiento del rotor y los requisitos de potencia son v\u00e1lidas, y predicciones similares para la operaci\u00f3n en Tit\u00e1n est\u00e1n dentro de las tolerancias esperadas de la misi\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cLas pruebas en esta instalaci\u00f3n \u00fanica en su tipo fueron un primer paso crucial para hacer realidad esta emocionante misi\u00f3n\u201d, dijo Richard Heisler, l\u00edder de pruebas en el t\u00fanel de viento para Dragonfly en el APL, que est\u00e1 dise\u00f1ando y construyendo el helic\u00f3ptero y administra la misi\u00f3n para la NASA. \u00abLos datos que recopilamos en el TDT nos dar\u00e1n una imagen mucho m\u00e1s clara de c\u00f3mo podemos esperar que funcionen los rotores de Dragonfly en la atm\u00f3sfera alien\u00edgena de Tit\u00e1n\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">El lanzamiento de Dragonfly est\u00e1 programado para 2027 y llegar\u00e1 a Tit\u00e1n en 2034, cuando comenzar\u00e1 lo que se espera sea una misi\u00f3n de 3 a\u00f1os para explorar y arrojar luz sobre la compleja qu\u00edmica en la ex\u00f3tica y oce\u00e1nica luna. Fue seleccionado en junio de 2019 como parte del programa New Frontiers de la NASA, que incluye la misi\u00f3n New Horizons a Plut\u00f3n y el Cintur\u00f3n de Kuiper, Juno a J\u00fapiter y OSIRIS-REx al asteroide Bennu.
